A woman pregnant with quadruplets comes to the hospital and Dr. Haas lobbies for the case. A female gynecologist joins the staff. Both Dr. Masters and his wife learn a secret and both get what they want.
Both Bill and Virginia have unexpected and unwelcome visitors at home. With the study back in the hospital, new participants are recruited. Ethan struggles to forget his feelings for Virginia.
Virginia unearths Masters' troubled childhood during a secret rendezvous.
Johnson tries to cover when she and Masters are seen by Langham leaving a hotel together after an evening tryst. Later, Masters attempts to bring Johnson aboard as his assistant at his new post; and Betty tries to conceal her infertility from Gene, over Masters' objections.
Masters and Johnson's book is released and, while reviews are positive, the public's response causes unease around the office. The new spotlight on her mother starts to affect Tessa at school, while Libby does her best to maintain a social life outside of her friendship with Virginia. Meanwhile, Masters and Johnson look to old and new places to capitalize on their burgeoning fame.
Masters consults unexpected advice in convincing Johnson to rededicate herself to the study and to him. A familiar face returns to the clinic for help. Meanwhile, Virginia is distracted by news of Henry and fails to notice Tessa trying to make sense of her home life. Libby confronts the truths of hers as she helps Paul and Joy pick up the pieces of their shattered lives.
Masters and Johnson adjust to new partners, but their respective cases have them second-guessing the instinct to remain separated. A romantic prospect pushes Libby to embrace life as a newly single woman of the sexual revolution.
Johnson, Masters, Libby and Keller wind up together at a party thrown by Art and Nancy. Pairings and perspectives shift as the night wears on, until the light of day exposes the consequences of the evening.
